Remodeling Kitchens That Are Not Old Yet

Riverwalkguide is a kitchen remodeling contractor working in Carlsbad, California. Most of the kitchens we see were put in by a builder somewhere around fifteen years ago, in communities like Bressi Ranch, Robertson Ranch and Rancho Carrillo. They were chosen from a design center menu before anyone had lived in the house, and they show it: finishes picked to appeal to the widest group of buyers, lighting laid out on a grid, a microwave doing the job of a range hood.

Those kitchens are not failing. That is the part that shapes how we work. A room that still functions does not need to be torn out to feel new, and treating every project as a full gut is how people spend six figures on a problem that a new set of doors, a better countertop and proper lighting would have solved.

How We Approach a Job

The first visit is an inspection more than a sales call. We open the cabinets and look at how the boxes are built, check the sink base for old water damage, find out where a hood duct could run, look at the electrical panel and measure the working aisles. Then we write a scope that splits the kitchen into what should stay, what should change and what is optional, with a range for each.

When a project does call for moving plumbing, taking out a wall or adding circuits, it goes through plans and a permit with the City of Carlsbad, and any structural question goes to an engineer before we commit to a design. Planned communities often have an HOA architectural review for anything visible from outside, such as a new exterior vent cap, and we build that time into the schedule rather than finding out late.

What We Will Not Do

We will not tell you a kitchen needs replacing when it does not. We will not quote you from a sample board without looking inside your cabinets. And we will not start demolition until the doors and slabs are ordered and dated, because an empty kitchen waiting on a supplier is the most avoidable misery in this trade.
