Among San Antonio’s best dining options, the completely reimagined Dorrego’s restaurant stands out for its exquisite, imaginative menu. Dine on distinctive culinary creations with a focus on local ingredients while overlooking the scenic River Walk.
Executive Chef Anthony Mesa has created an innovative menu for Dorrego’s based on the rich culinary heritage of Argentina. The menu showcases fresh, local ingredients and an imaginative approach to steaks, seafood, fowl and more.
Chef Mesa draws much of his inspiration for Dorrego’s from his travels in Argentina. While there, he experienced the culinary influences from Spain, Italy, France and other cultures that are woven into both classic and modern Argentinian cuisine.
Smoked Short Rib Ravioli; Head-on Grilled Prawns with a Saffron Tomato Jus; and Quail Meatballs. The Proveleta Flameado a la Mesa features a tequila-flamed imported Argentine provolone cheese. Desserts include Charred Apple Empanada with house-made Dulce de Leche Ice Cream and the light yet rich Lorena’s Cheesecake. A carefully curated wine list includes a wide variety of Argentinean wines and Dorrego’s bar features an array of specialty cocktails.
Un Poco Mas
One special Argentinean tradition Mesa brought back with him is the notion of providing guests with “Un Poco Más,” or “A Little More.”
“In every restaurant in Argentina you are offered a little something extra to enjoy while you wait for your meal,” Mesa explained. “I wanted to bring this special touch to Dorrego’s. so when guests order their coffee in the morning, we offer a them a little cookie or biscotti. When they order a cocktail, we offer candied pepitas or house-made potato chips. It’s those little extra gestures that make guests feel welcome and appreciated.”
The restaurant’s décor reflects the Spanish Colonial design and architectural heritage of Argentina, with a touch of Parisian bistro panache. It features Argentinean-style tile work and woods with dark metal accents. The new dining space includes a private dining area. Dorrego’s also features a new restaurant bar, and the welcoming space is ideal for gathering and lingering.
