NO ONE REALLY KNOWS WHO INVENTED BARBEQUE. In America, it probably originated during the cattle drives of the 1800s, as chuck wagon cooks tried to tenderize inexpensive cuts of meat for the trail drivers. But the Chinese could lay claim to having a form of BBQ long before America was discovered. As well as the Romans and the Greeks. We’ll never know who really invented it. But what we do know [...]

Bolner Family History
Our great grandfathers, Antonio and Joseph Bolner, immigrated from Tyrol, Italy to Vera Cruz, Mexico in 1881. The brothers came to the Americas as part of an appeal made from President Diaz of Mexico to Italy looking for farmers to tend their hill country. The citizens of Mexico did not appreciate the immigrants working their lands and violence broke out. The Italian immigrants were quickly [...]

In 1950, on a $500 loan from his father, Bill Miller opened a small poultry and egg business. Three years later Bill Miller Bar-B-Q began as a small fried chicken-to-go restaurant. Fried chicken led to hamburgers and then to barbecue. The second restaurant opened in February of 1963. Today there are 68 Bill Miller Bar-B-Q restaurants.
From the beginning, Bill Miller Bar-B-Q was a family business. Faye Miller served as [...]

The conversation went something like this: “Hey – let’s build exactly the sort of place where we’d want to hang out.”
The food should be delicious, inexpensive, and a hell of a lot of fun to eat. The beer list should celebrate craft brewers and microbreweries. Our wine list ought to be comprised of varietally-correct, terroir-driven selections that are interesting and affordable. And we’ll open it in the beautiful King William neighborhood, [...]

The Cove is locally owned & operated by Sam & Lisa Asvestas and a wonderful team. Our passion is healthy, delicious food and live music. The Cove restaurant was born in April 2001 as an after thought to a carwash and a coin laundry. In the beginning we only served ice cream and hot sandwiches.
As I discovered that I truly enjoyed the hospitality business and food; I continued to [...]

The concept of the restaurant is everything old school, using what they had and doing as they did before the break of the industrial revolution: approximately 1850. This was the last time that food was honest.
There are no blenders, mixers, choppers, ice cream machines, deep fryers, burr sticks, nor anything else with a motor–nothing with a plug. Food machines with motors made possible an imbalance of diet that had never occurred [...]
