Deep in the heart of Texas is a little bit of Old Mexico. Any lunchtime or dinner, waiters heft trays piled high with Corona Beer-Basted Camarones Yucateco, and hustle to your table with platters heaped with Fajitas al Carbon, still smokin’ from the grill. At the River level, the “tongue-in-chic” Naked Iguana Lounge can keep a small crowd very happy indeed, serving a huge selection of signature margaritas.

The newly constructed Jack Guenther Pavilion was designed by the nationally recognized and award winning architecture firm Lake/Flato. At nearly 21,000 square feet, the three-story Pavilion consists of space for both public and private events. The adjacent McNutt Courtyard and Sculpture Garden will serve as both a public space during the Museum’s operating hours, and will also be available for special events.

INSPIRED BY THE UNION of old and new worlds, Ocho at Hotel Havana offers two unique spaces for dining and drinks on the River Walk in San Antonio. The upstairs Ocho dining room, situated in a glass and steel conservatory reminiscent of a birdcage, opens onto the river and offers seating both indoors and outdoors. The beauty of the steel structure is highlighted in Tiffany blue, with couches and lounge seating filling one side of the luminous space and linen-clothed tables spilling into the courtyard. The downstairs lounge provides a dimly candlelit gathering place with velvet couches and antique leather club chairs suited for intimate meetings and secret rendezvous.

Executive Chef Larry McGuire presents a food, cocktail and wine menu that is rooted in the hotel’s pan-Latin cultural influences. The cocktail menu is built around reinvented old school recipes, and highlights the tequila of the hotel’s San Antonio roots with the rum of its Cuban homeland. The wine list offers guests a chance to explore lesser known selections from the old world of Spain and France as well as bold new flavors coming from young wine producing regions in South America.

Ocho offers inventive menus for breakfast (recently voted among the Best in Texas in 2011 by Texas Monthly Magazine), lunch, dinner and late night — to be served in-room, on the patio or in the upstairs lounge. From sweet plantain griddle cakes with Mexican crema and blueberries to the huitlacoche quesadillas and the shrimp and crab campachena, the food reflects a new approach to traditional Latin fare with the classic country club as inspiration.

Upstairs Ocho Dining Room Hours:
Sunday – Thursday, 7 am – 10 pm
Friday & Saturday, 7 am – 12 am

Downstairs Lounge Hours:

The Spanish Missionary, Father Damian Massanet, conducted the first Catholic Mass on this spot on June 13, 1691. He went on to rename the river after Saint Anthony of Padua to honor his feast day. Rolando Briseño was commissioned in 1991 to create a sculpture to commemorate this Mass. The island is now the root ball of a cypress tree that was planted over 100 years ago. The island was originally kept so as not to cause permanent damage to the historic tree.Marriage Island has remained a place of worship and celebration for hundreds of years. It is said to bring good fortune to any couple married on the Island. Marriage Island is located in downtown San Antonio on the Riverwalk between Presa and Navarro streets.

Marriage Island provides an enchanting setting, is listed among the worlds top 10 most romantic destination wedding locations, and recieved the 2011 San Antonio’s Downtown Best Award for best place for a downtown wedding. Marriage Island is perfect for formal weddings or San Antonio Riverwalk elopements. Learn more here.

-Luminaria to highlight original creative works with focus on theme of light-

Luminaria 2012 has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 5, 2012 at HemisFair Park in San Antonio, TX. Last year, the footprint for Luminaria expanded, allowing ample room for artists’ works to be featured throughout HemisFair Park. The enlarged footprint will remain the same for Luminaria 2012.

Since Luminaria began over four years ago, it has become the largest single-day arts event in South Texas, attracting over 310,000 attendees in 2011.

Luminaria includes the collaboration of over 80 artists and non-profit arts organizations, spotlighting six artistic disciplines: music, dance, media arts (film), literary arts, theatre and visual arts from local, national and international artists.

Luminaria is San Antonio’s annual celebration of contemporary art and artists. This year marks the 5th Anniversary of the city-wide art event. Luminaria is a free event that showcases all art forms in an outdoor setting in downtown San Antonio. Luminaria spotlights the region’s cultural assets for local citizens and visitors alike and is made possible through the generosity of artists, arts organizations, volunteers, and public and private donations. Luminaria officially launched in 2008.

Luminaria’s name is San Antonio’s adaptation of “White Nights”, originally conceived in Paris, France in 2002, in an attempt to bring contemporary art to the masses in public spaces, while inspiring dialogue and engaging the public to examine its significance and impact on public space.
