Morton’s of Chicago Steakhouse

849 E. Commerce (78205)
(210) 228-0935

Morton’s The Steakhouse has become a globally-recognized icon of fine dining, specializing in classic, hearty American fare, serving generous portions of its specialty, USDA grain-fed Prime aged beef (the finest available), fresh fish, lobster, lamb and chicken entrees, premium wines and spectacular desserts.

Morton’s actually exists today because of…hamburgers! Years ago, before co-founders Arnie Morton and Klaus Fritsch really knew one other, they both worked at the Playboy Club in Montreal. The club was changing the menu, and Klaus cooked a hamburger that was sent out for Arnie to try. Arnie burst into the kitchen, demanding to know “Who cooked that hamburger?”

When Klaus stepped forward, he wasn’t sure if Arnie was going to be pleased or not but was relieved to hear him say that it was the best he’d ever tasted. From that day forward, they called it the “Million-Dollar Hamburger”!

It was April 1, 1983 in Clearwater, Florida and on the corner of Gulf to Bay and Hampton Road, history was about to be made. Six fun-loving businessmen with roots in the Midwest and with no experience in the foodservice business were opening doors to a restaurant with an owl logo, chicken wings as the featured item, and girls in orange shorts. After frantically locating a friend to show them how to start the fryers (after all, it was April Fool’s Day), Hooters was off and crawling.

That crawl soon turned into a stride, and now Hooters is running at full speed with restaurants opening throughout the Sunbelt, the Rockies, the Eastern Seaboard, the beautiful Canadian country with expansion plans for the entire U.S. and more international markets. This success pattern was accomplished under the guidance of Hooters of America, Inc. who recognized the [...]

Dick’s Last Resort

406 Navarro (78205)
(210) 224-0026

Dick’s Last Resort is a small bar and restaurant chain in the United States, known for its intentional employment of an obnoxious staff. The name consists of seven restaurants, including one near Petco Park, California and another in Las Vegas. The restaurant, which uses picnic-style tables and no tablecloths, has its origins in the owners’ original opening of a “fine-dining” establishment. The establishment was a failure, which resulted in bankruptcy. Rather than continue with the upscale restaurant motif, the owners retooled their efforts and decided to “go sloppy”.The end result was a success, leading to the creation of six additional locations.
